Introduction
What is the Foundation to Overcome Rare Genetic Errors (FORGE)?
FORGE is a charitable organisation seeking to improve the lives and outcomes of those experiencing rare genetic disorders worldwide, initially focusing on, but not limited to, childhood auto-immune conditions. We are doing this by enabling innovative high-quality research globally, aiming to correct the gene errors leading to these disorders, to better understand these conditions and to find ways to accurately track the disease activity
Our aim
What do we hope
to achieve?
Our current priority is to find ways to correct the
genetic errors that result in rare serious immune
disorders in children. Rare diseases represent
a challenge because they only affect a small
proportion of the population. As a result they are
often neglected by research organisations and
fail to get the resources they need to develop
new treatments. Sometimes known as orphan
diseases, affected individuals will suffer all their
lives as the condition is present from birth. With
new gene therapies such as gene editing and gene
silencing, performed soon after diagnosis, these
children could be spared the ravages of these
genetic disorders and enjoy long happy lives.
Although these conditions are rare, our research will also shed light on a whole range of other more common conditions such as severe Covid-19 infection, juvenile rheumatoid arthritis and juvenile systemic lupus erythematosus.

Funding
How is research
funding allocated?
Working closely together with experts and
specialist organisations in our networks, across
the U.K. and Australia, we are connecting
researchers with the funding needed, to
deliver novel gene therapies. Our Scientific
Advisory Board considers all funding requests
and prioritises them in terms of originality,
relevance, scientific soundness of design and
methodology, and feasibility. Together we
aim to correct the gene errors causing these
disorders and ensure the wider application of
our research by sharing evidence from it, both
empowering patients and their families in the
process, and ultimately informing national and
international clinical guidelines.
Volunteering
Opportunities
with FORGE
FORGE has opportunities for everyone to get involved in the work we do. We need people to help run the charity, work for us as employees or volunteers, or offer services on a contractual basis.
